Tap Catz

When the six tap dancers called Tap Catz came to Arcare Maroochydore their tap dancing resonated through the theatre and with their special Christmas show, they had the clients spellbound.

Aileen was the spokesperson for the group and said that the women have been dancing together for over 12 years.

‘We are all good friends – Gwen, Lorraine, Kaye, Inez, Desley and Narelle are the dancers with Annie does the music. We all work well as a team to get the show on the road,’ Aileen explained.

‘Laurie, seated at the back of the theatre, is the choreographer of this amazing show but being 85 she sadly can’t tap anymore but she likes to come to every show to manage the arrangements,’ Aileen said.

The sparkle of the sequins on every outfit was dazzling as they tapped onto the stage to many favourite songs such as “Come fly with Me” by Frank Sinatra and “Come on Get Happy” buy Judy Garland.

Rob Parke, guitar player and comedian, entertained as the dancers came on and off stage.

As the clients waited for the next tap dance, Rob sang some good old Australian favourites such as the Road to Gundagai, Skippy as well as some Scottish favourites which had the clients all tapping their toes.

To finish the show, one the dancers dressed as Rudolph the red nosed reindeer waving the antlers and flashing nose, singing Christmas songs.

To the client’s surprise she took off her costume to reveal yet another beautiful red, sequined dress to join in with the others tapping to the finale.

‘We all loved the performance and we are astounded at the fitness levels of these women,’ Margaret said.

‘We hope they come back again soon as we all remember how popular tap dancing was when we were young,’ she said.
