The bigger the better for the Melbourne Cup

As the hype began in the lead up to the race that stops a nation, the clients of Arcare Kanwal decided they would do a fascinator making craft day with the help of lifestyle officer Louise. It was made know that this year some of the ladies were going to make their fascinators big and bold! Client Janette stated ‘The bigger the hat, the better! That’s what the Melbourne Cup is all about.’

The morning of the cup had arrived, and the clients gathered in the hall for the annual Kanwal Cup in their fancy outfits and bold fascinators. Twelve clients are involved in the race who get to pick their best horse name.

Everyone took turns in rolling the die and moving along the track, as the players neared the end you could feel the anticipation from the crowd as they cheered their fellow clients to roll the winning number that would see them cross the line first.

After lunch the sweeps for the main event are set up in the hall. All clients and team members pile in to pick their horse, grab a plate of nibbles, a drink and wait for the race to begin.

During the race no one spoke a word, you could hear a pin drop but as the horses came around the final bend, people were on their feet cheering their horses’ home!
