The Arcare Cheltenham community have four students from Kilvington Grammar visit on a weekly basis. Georgia, Tahlia, Ken and Sirious visit the residence every Friday and travel via bus and train to get there.
The group of students were challenged by their school to complete a project that would benefit the community. As well as volunteering their time, Georgia, Tahlia, Ken and Sirious decided to plant a veggie garden in one of the courtyard areas at Arcare Cheltenham. The veggie garden took 12 weeks to complete and now contains carrots, herbs, tomatoes and other delicious fruits and vegetables.
The clients enjoyed and appreciated the company of the younger generation, as they spent time together chatting, laughing, playing card games and showing each other tips and tricks of how to maintain a veggie garden. Occasionally Ken and Sirious would play the piano for the clients, which would always make everyone smile.
On Wednesday 12th June, Arcare Cheltenham team members and clients were invited to visit Kilvington Grammar and attend their expo. The expo was a way for the students to present all of their hard-work and stories to their school and community. The challenge set by the secondary school asked for students to show initiative, compassion and respect towards their community. All the team members and clients at Cheltenham could certainly agree after witnessing the students community spirit, that they exceeded the expectations outlined in their challenge.
Arcare Cheltenham’s lifestyle team presented Certificate of Appreciation to the Tahlia, Ken,Sirious and Georgia during their expo. The students were shocked to be recognised for their contributions in such a way.
Arcare Cheltenham would like to take this opportunity to thank Georgia, Tahlia, Ken and Sirious for their support and compassion throughout their time volunteering.
