The look on Soula’s face was priceless when baby Ava came in to visit. Soula often asks Michelle, a staff member, how her granddaughter is so she was surprised and delighted when Ava came to meet Soula and the other residents at aged care facility Arcare Craigieburn.
The five month old had everyone cooing away and eager for a cuddle. Eva was a ‘koukla’, or a doll, as Soula kept calling her, and didn’t mind being passed around.
It was so lovely to see all the natural, nurturing instincts came into play, as many residents from the Sensitive Care Unit instinctively started baby-talking with Ava and treating her like one of their own. They were all so gentle and caring, and also enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories of their own children and grandchildren.
