On Thursday 30th May 2019, Monica Stretch celebrated her 100th birthday with her family and the Arcare Knox community.
The lifestyle team organised an intimate birthday party for Monica to enjoy with her nearest and dearest. A delicious cream cake was served up to Monica, as everyone gathered around to sing her ‘Happy Birthday’.
Monica’s daughter, Nola said, “We have the big family get together on the weekend, but it has been wonderful for Mum to celebrate with her friends here.”
Monica was born on 30th May 1919 and is one of four children. Monica grew up in Melbourne and attended a Catholic School in Brunswick.
Over the span of her life, Monica has worked as a tea lady, in the woollen mills and as a proud mother.
Monica says her biggest enjoyments are: a ‘good’ cup of tea, her family and of course, watching the Collingwood Magpies play a game of AFL footy.
Monica received a letter from Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth, the governor of Victoria and the local MP congratulating her on this milestone birthday.
Monica and her daughter, Nola were so excited to received the momentous letter, that they were having it framed to display in Monica’s suite.
Lifestyle team member joked during the party, “I have already gotten an invite from Monica for her 101st birthday!” Monica adding, “I’ll be here next year!”
Rachel Bailey is the Community Marketing Officer for Victoria. Rachel has been with Arcare since February 2018, when she started in the role of Relationship Coordinator. Rachel has previously worked in a wide range of roles that equipped her for her responsibilities as Arcare's Community Marketing Officer for Victoria. Rachel has previously held marketing roles and administration roles in a range of industries, earning a range of valuable communications skills that she brings to her role today. Rachel attended Lyndhurst Secondary College in Cranbourne, Victoria, graduating with her Victorian Certificate of Education in 2014. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA) majoring in Communication and Media Studies & Public Relations in 2017. Rachel is passionate about her work and believes that strong communication strategies are the key to creating a closer connection between residents in aged care communities and the wider community. Rachel is a firm believer in regular communications to help friends and family keep updated on the lives of their loved ones who are enjoying life in Arcare residences.
