The Motley Crew

In February, several clients from the Arcare Malvern East community ventured out on a bus trip to visit Pentridge Prison in Coburg, Victoria.

Established in 1851, Pentridge Prison was considered to be a maximum security facility, which housed some of Australia’s most notorious outlaws, gang leaders, killers and gangsters.

Pentridge Prison is also the formal resting place of outlaw, Ned Kelly and officially closed in 1997.

Now, the Prison offers guided tours of the grounds to the public. Some paranormalists even offer ghost experiences on the grounds at night, as many believe the prison is haunted.

However the clients from the Malvern East community were only interested in the guided tour of the grounds, not the ghostly experience. The group chose to visit Pentridge prison,as many of the client were fascinated by the prison’s rich history, and they were keen to learn more.

Lifestyle coordinator, Tina joked that this regular group of clients should be called, ‘The Motley Crew’, as they get up to all kinds of mischief when they are out and about. A few of the clients joked about locking each other up, as they walked through the prison.

At the end of the tour, one client joked that the staff at Pentridge Prison had “Let [them] out on good behaviour,” and that’s why they were allowed to go home.
