On Sunday 16th June 2019, John and Pat Munro celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their friends, family and the Arcare Cheltenham community.
John and Pat were married on Tuesday 16th June in 1959 at a church in Moonee Ponds, Victoria. John said after they were married, they moved to Dingley, where they continued to live until the couple had to move into aged care.
John and Pat had 2 children, David and Jenny. David is currently working as chief financial officer for a gas company and Jenny is a stay-at-home mother. John and Pat couldn’t be more proud of both their children and their families.
While John is currently residing at Arcare Cheltenham, Pat lives at another aged care residence. The couple makes their long-distance relationship work, as schedule in time to visit and spend time one another. John says, “I am happy and comfortable here at Arcare Cheltenham and I love that I’m still able to see Pat whenever I want.”
When a team member at Cheltenham asked John, ‘what the secret was to their long and happy marriage’, John responded with:
“Well, we just do our own things: I was always working or playing golf etc. and Pat would go where she wanted and would catch up with friends. However we make sure that we communicate each other. Communication has always been the main, important thing to focus on for Pat and I.”
Before John retired, he worked as the CEO of Australian Unity. John worked at the company’s Elizabeth St Office for almost 25 years, before the office moved to Albert Park, because the company grew by hundreds of staff.
Arcare Cheltenham would like to congratulate and wish John and Pat all the best for their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
