In celebration of winter, the Lifestyle Team at Arcare Slacks Creek were getting ready for their monthly themed celebrations. For this month, the theme was ‘Winter Wonderland’!
The day started off a with a morning session of pampering that began at 9.30am. Ladies from the residence were gathered to the beauty salon for a treat. Lifestyle Coordinator Lee and her lovely volunteers set to get the ladies ready for the ball.
Makeup was all over the table as clients like Phyllis got their hair done, blush and mascara applied, eyebrows drawn and lips and nails painted.
Everyone was very giggly as it brought back many memories of late-night sleepovers with friends or sisters where they would put on makeup for fun. For some, getting a manicure was not common!
Many of the ladies did not feel they were beautiful with makeup but after the pampering session, their confidence was boosted as they confidently flashed their pearly whites and posed for the camera.
While the clients were enjoying their lunch, the team at Arcare Slacks Creek set out to decorate the dining hall.
Homemade snowflakes were hung from the ceiling, silver tablecloths and snow pinecone displays were added to the tables and a uniquely ‘Winter Wonderland’ photo-wall was created.
The tables were purposefully set-up with a space in the middle for our special entertainment! Cindy, a professional harpist who has been teaching the harp for over 30 years, played beautifully during the ball. She played a variety of Aussie classics and pop songs.
The chefs also prepared a delicious array of finger foods that were worthy of a five-star restaurant. Champagne in flutes, hot chocolates with marshmallows and soft drinks were also served to the clients.
Following the feast, a raffle was drawn and the lucky lady won a rainbow-coloured bouquet of flowers. She was over the moon.
Everyone also played a game of ‘Pass the Parcel’ with 6 parcels and by no means was it an easy feat with over 80 people attending! In the end, the winners included a sweet gentleman who tore open the last layer and found himself with a delicate snow globe.
As the event draw to a close, Cindy was brought back to play the harp as clients and team members slow danced on the dancefloor.
Everyone had a great time at the party with their families and friends. It was great to see people making new friends and people from all ages participating and having fun.
It is important to celebrate the little things in life and to be grateful for them. With the Winter Wonderland Ball, the clients were encouraged to socialise, try new things and step out of their comfort zones.
