How do I access respite care in aged care?

To receive respite care support, you need to complete an eligibility check and assessment through My Aged Care. Once approved, you’ll receive respite care through either the Commonwealth Home Support Programme or in your Home Care Package.

You will receive a respite classification, which will determine the level of care you need. You can receive up to 63 days per year of subsidised respite care. This can be extended by 21 days at a time if your aged care assessor approves it.

How much does respite care cost per day?

Everyone pays a basic daily fee to access residential aged care. The government sets it at 85% of the single basic age pension and they update this fee on 20 March and 20 September each year. Learn more about short term respite fees on My Aged Care.

You will also have to pay a booking fee to secure your place at Arcare.

We are happy to talk through the fees and your respite care options – regardless of whether you choose a short-stay with Arcare or somewhere else.

Do you offer respite care for people with dementia?

Caring for someone with dementia can be demanding. If you and your loved one aren’t ready for permanent aged care yet, another option is short term respite care. Learn more about our sensitive dementia care.

Does every Arcare Aged Care Home offer respite?
