Moving into aged care

There comes a point in life when we need deeper care and support. Moving into aged care can be an overwhelming and stressful experience for everyone involved. If you need to transition into aged care, here are some steps to follow.

Step 1: Eligibility

Step 1: Eligibility

The first step is to get an assessment from My Aged Care. This is the starting point for determining your eligibility to access aged care services supported by the Australian Government.

All Arcare Aged Care Communities are government funded, so all potential residents must be assessed to receive care.

This assessment will determine your health care needs and what services will help meet those needs which will allow us to claim government funding to reduce fees.

Step 2: Choose an aged care facility

Step 2: Choose an aged care facility

Choosing an aged care residence that is right for you is complex. There are many things to take into consideration.

A good start is to visit a range of residences so you can get a feel for the culture and compare your options. When choosing an aged care facility, some things to look out for are a positive and homely environment, friendly staff, happy residents and an active lifestyle and social calendar.

We encourage you to arrange a private tour at one of Arcare’s aged care residences. Here you can talk with some of our carers, residents and our friendly staff who can answer all your questions.

Step 3: Understand fees and charges

Step 3: Understand fees and charges

It’s important that you understand residential aged care fees and payment options so that you can make the best choices for you and your family.

Depending on your circumstances, you will have to pay:

  1. Daily care fees – these fees cover your day-to-day aged care services.
  2. Accommodation Fee – this is the fee for the suite you have chosen at your selected residence.

Our team members are happy to discuss our fees with you and go through a range of options to suit your financial situation.

Step 4: Apply for aged care

Step 4: Apply for aged care

To apply to live in an Arcare Residence you will need a copy of your aged care assessment, your financial assessment (if applicable) and a completed Arcare Application. You can download a copy of the Arcare Application below.

When you have gathered and completed these documents you can email them to us or drop them in personally at your preferred Arcare residence. Please address your Arcare Application to the Client Services Manager who you have connected with.
