For this week’s edition of #PeopleofArcare we introduce Alyx Manaloto, General Services Manager at Arcare Essendon. She started out as a PCA and in the 9 years she has worked for Arcare, she has been able to grow in her career to become a GSM.
What do you enjoy about your role?
Everything. I enjoy being with the residents, hearing their stories, and just being able to help team members with their daily tasks.
How does this company differ from others you’ve worked for?
The company itself, I started as a PCA with Arcare, and they have given myself and other team members a lot of opportunities for growth and also offer great incentives.
What do you love about Arcare and working in Aged Care?
Working in aged care, I really enjoyed working with the residents and providing the best care. As a GSM, my role is motivating the team to do their best with the care they provide for the residents. Because I have done so many roles within Arcare, I have been able to understand where they are coming from – giving advice or if they have any challenges. I feel at home with seeing the residents and having a chat with them every day and seeing them happy makes me happy.
What are your favourite stories of working at your residence / with your team / with a client?
My favourite would be hearing what their life was like when they were younger, it interests me talking to people and getting to know how they were before.
What tips or advice would you give to someone looking to work in Aged Care?
I would say you need to have a passion for what you do, I always tell people it’s not just about making sure the residence looks good, it’s also about how we’re providing the best quality for them and creating an atmosphere where they feel at home and a part of our family.
What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy cooking and going out to try new restaurants.
What is your special talent that you enjoy doing outside of work? How did you learn this talent?
I can sing, dance, I used to do ballet and continue it at home with my kids.
Can you share one fun fact about yourself?
My life revolves around my kids, but now that they’re older it’s all about work.
