For this week’s edition of #PeopleofArcare, meet Nursing Unit Manager and Infection Control Lead at Arcare Essendon, Suhavi Preet Kaur. She has worked at Arcare for over 2 years and she shares with us her favourite part about working at Arcare Essendon and her advice for anyone looking to work in Aged Care.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy engaging with everyone, including team members, clients, and their families. I love to talk to new people, engage in new conversations and learn something new every day.
How does this company differ from others you’ve worked for?
Arcare has given me the support and knowledge I required for my role. I feel confident and secure in my role and if I make a mistake, I feel comfortable asking for help.
What do you love about Arcare and working in Aged Care?
Arcare feels a lot like a homely environment, I know how to make the residents feel comfortable and Arcare has given me the opportunity for the residence to feel like my comfort zone.
What are your favourite stories of working at your residence / with your team / with a client?
Building relationships with clients and other team members, to have a familiar atmosphere to feel comfortable with each other. We are like a family; it is fun coming into work, and the residents are always happy to see you and are comfortable in sharing their stories and experiences, which I love.
What tips or advice would you give to someone looking to work in Aged Care?
Be kind and treat others how you would want them to treat you. If you radiate positive and polite energy you will get that in return.
