Building connections

On Thursday 19th September, a number of clients from the Arcare Craigieburn community traveled via bus to visit the Arcare Surrey Hills residence .

It was quite the journey, for those who set out on the bus trip, as Arcare Surrey Hills was over an hour away. However many didn’t seem to mind the long drive, as the beautiful weather made the trip into an enjoyable scenic drive.

Once the group of Craigieburn clients arrived, they were greeted by Surrey Hills lifestyle coordinator, Monique, who showed them to the downstairs lounge room.

Eager Surrey Hills client were already waiting for them in the lounge room, and they were excited to start getting to know one another and play a few games.

After several minutes of mingling, the group decided to start the day with a giant game of Jenga. Each client, took it in turns to delicately remove a block, from the ever growing tower. The loud laughter from the clients echoed in the lounge room. Everyone found it hilarious and absurd, that they were playing Jenga with such large blocks.

The group was even so good at the game, that everyone got a second turn. That was until, Arcare Surrey Hills client, Ron pulled out a block and the tower started to wobble, before toppling over. Ron laughed as the whole structure came crumbling down.

The group still had some time before lunch would be served, so we decided to play another game; a giant game of skittles. There were three winners in total; two clients from Surrey Hills, Bernice and Denise and Craigieburn client, June. Each winner was awarded some delicious chocolates for their amazing bowling skills.

The Arcare Craigieburn clients were then invited to join the Arcare Surrey Hills community for lunch in one of their dining rooms. Clients were served a delicious meal of honey soy chicken for lunch, which was followed by caramelised bananas and ice-cream for dessert.

To top off the day, before heading home, the visitors from Craigieburn enjoyed a personal tour of the stunning residence led by Monique.

“It was such an enjoyable day, I loved it! I enjoyed everything from the drive there, the games, meeting new friends, seeing the beautiful residence and the delicious food just topped it all off! The chicken was absolutely delicious.” Arcare Craigieburn client, Norma said.

On the bus ride home, everyone raved about the experience and insisted that they meet up with their new friends from Arcare Surrey Hills again. As a result of this, both residences are already planning a joint picnic adventure in October 2019.
